Something on my Mind

Today is July 7th and I am writing about school, this doesn't feel right. However, an important matter has come to mind and I feel the need to speak out on it. Not to toot my own horn, but I do pretty well in school. This means when teachers give out "rewards" for something, I generally will receive them. Too often though, I find myself turning right around to give this reward to someone else. Why? Well, even though we are grown high school students and should be working on healthy eating habits, teachers still insist on using candy and sweet treats as a way to push students/reward them. Lots of kids like this, but I still don't see this as a motive (even though I have enjoyed a few Snickers in my life). As a student who cares about school a lot, I believe there are better options, such as an extra credit point here and there, if teachers feel the need to reward students. I've begun to grow more annoyed as a person who tries to avoid eating unnecessary, unhealthy junk, finding myself only getting a piece of candy when I earn a 100% on a difficult test. A reward isn't always necessary, but this is more like a tease. I often even see when there are friendships in a class, students find a way to reap other's benefits, instead of working hard to earn something themselves. Kids in school have started to work towards things only when they want a special sweet treat, no longer seeing a good grade as reward enough. Yet, in every classroom there is a poster about healthy eating habits. Ironic, right? I can see why some teachers might be hesitant on passing out extra credit points or other rewards like it's nothing, but how can they believe that is more dangerous than eating a few extra pieces of candy every day, as well as teach false ideas on what should be motivating students through school? Eventually I'm going to bring this idea up to my teachers. But for now, this is just something on my mind.
